RELEASE INFO Dub! Dub! Dub! The father of electronic music, The breeding ground for rap and dj music. This unique form of music was created in the minute studios of King Tubbys in Kingston Jamaica in the early 70's. Using 4 track equipment this form of music quicky caught on through the reggae scene as producers found it cheaper to use the same rhythm track on the B sides as oppose to creating a new rhythm. By the mid seventies, the dub album phenomenon affected every producer of reggae, who quickly found new mileage for tracks lying around, that has past there "sell by" date!!!! Amongst the most popular dub albums of this era, was King Tubby meets the Upsetter at the grassroots of dub, Beware Dub, Rass Clatt Dub, I- Wah Dub, African Dub and loads more!! By the end of the seventies I was totally captivated by this style. It generated such an excitement listening to dub , that I built my first sitting room studios using my home made mixer , and a four track Teac tape machine. I also built some effects from popular circuits diagrams found in Practical Wireless and Practical Electronics magazines. By the early 80's , my Studios were upgaded to 16 tracks using an Ampex mm 1000 machine. It is at this point I had the idea to create a series of Dub albums. Dub Me Crazy started as a roots message dub album. The sleeve notes that have never been used is still on the box of a ¼ inch master tape.. Dub me crazy did not ignite straight off. Infact after selling 500 of the initial 1000 pressings, the next 500 laid dormant in my sitting room for 6 months until I had a call from John Peel of BBC Radio one. John Peel wanted more info about Dub me Crazy, and Mad Professor and expressed his liking of the album. I was shocked!! Based on the 500 that were sold, I didn't think that anyone had heard the bloody thing. JP enquired whether I had any more material, and requested that I do a session. I promptly proceeded to do just that, laying the tracks at the newly built Ariwa Studios in Gautrey Road Peckham. Those tracks so popular when played, that sales from Dub me Crazy picked up immensely. This album is made up of tracks from the legendary brothers Leroy Mafia & Dave Fluxy, 2 of the hardest working musicians in reggae for the past decade. Originally from North London band The Instigators the brothers went on to play rythms for Fat Man and Bunny Lee, then moving to Jamaica where they done sessions for every busy producer in the late eighties and nineties. This dub for the new millenium from this millenium. Recorded at M&F Studios mixed at the Ariwa Sounds in Febuary 2002. Using Ariwa custom effects. Other musicians on this project include Buttons playing a mean trombone. I hope you enjoy listening to this as I have enjoyed mixing it. MP |
